About Murray Gilford
The Founder of Murray Gilford & Associates, Inc would not change places with anyone alive today. “I am the most blessed person alive today. My God is a perfect God, who does not make mistakes. I am exactly, who and what I was intended to be.” Nor does he dwell on what might, could or should have been. “My past experiences, both good, and bad are what got me to where I am today”.
Born on a Tuesday, February 4, 1947, at 5: 30 p.m., in Beaumont, Texas, into an extended and tight knit, working class family, Murray is the oldest of four and the only son of Murry, Sr. (deceased) and Christine Gilford.
Six-feet tall and well dressed, Murray is an energetic, unpretentious and animated speaker. Self-confident, with an unintended sense of humor, he is also an analytical, very private, no nonsense businessman and admitted workaholic and alcoholic, with fifteen years of continuous sobriety. “Many alcoholics are workaholics and vice versa.”
He eats only one meal a day and gets by on three or four hours of sleep a night. “I’m not a pig. I eat to live, not live to eat and besides, when it’s all over, I’ll have from here to eternity to sleep."
In addition to his responsibilites as the C.E.O. of Murray Gilford & Associates, Murray is a tireless advocate for recovering alcoholics. For three years he has been in the forefront of a grassroots initiative to ammend the Illinois vehicle code. Visit www.amends625.com for more information about this initiative.
Dedicated to helping other alcoholics achieve the sobriety and peace of mind, which was so freely given to him through the grace of God and Alcoholics Anonymous, Murray is the Founder and Registered Agent of Northwest Suburban Fellowship, NFP: A Not–For–Profit twelve step addictions recovery and support group.
In his spare time, Murray is in the process of producing an educational, alcohol and drug addiction documentary. The as yet untitled documentary, which will be marketed to in–patient and out–patient addictions treatment providers, and to high schools throughout the United States and Canada is scheduled to be released in DVD format in March, 2012. A portion of the net proceeds will be donated to Northwest Suburban Fellowship. There is also a cable T.V. talk show in the works.
With all of this, it is easy to understand why one of Murray's pet peeves are people who waste time—especially his.
The men, who have had a lasting and positive influence in Murray’s life, are his father and his father’s brothers: Morgan (deceased), Jim and Archie (also deceased). When time permits, for relaxation Murray likes to horseback ride during the fall. He also enjoys cooking outdoors, bike riding and gardening in the summer. A chess player, who listens to Jazz and R&B, Murray’s favorite colors are black and blue. An avid pro football fan, on Sundays Murray can usually be found at home in front of the television. His long range goal is to one day earn a Master's Degree in Business Administration, though he is in no rush. The father of three adult daughters (Lisa, Angela and Gean Nate´) and grandfather of three, Murray resides in Des Plaines, Illinois with his wife Mary Ann, who is herself, a small business owner.
